Wine and Spirit Education Trust WSET® Courses
Hong Kong Wine Academy is a Approved Programme Provider of the UK based Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET® ). The WSET® courses are popular worldwide and being offered in over 47 countries, and well recognized in Hong Kong by both people in the trade as well as consumers. All courses will be taught by qualified and experienced WSET® Educators. Unless specified, teaching of the courses will be in Cantonese supplemented, while course materials and exams will be in English.
WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines
此基礎証書課程專為初學者 / 初飲者而設，提供直接的葡萄酒入門知識及經驗，深入淺出，生動有趣。課程亦適合相關餐飲及葡萄酒行業從業員，提升個人技能，令在職表現更顯自信。內容包含介紹世界各地主要葡萄品種與其特性、品酒技巧與應用及葡萄酒佐餐慨念等趣味話題, 適合不同品味人士參加。（課程只適合年滿十八或以上人士參加）
The Level 1 Award is an entry level qualification providing a straightforward introduction to wine. It is ideal for boosting the confidence of new or inexperienced front line staff in the hospitality and retail sectors. It is also a great course for those wanting to know the main grape varieties and food and wine matching.
This course is suitable for:
- Wine consumers wanting to know more about the main grape varieties and food and wine matching.
- New and inexperienced staff in hospitality and retail sectors.
This 6 hour course will cover the following topics:
- The main styles of wine
- WSET® Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting and sampling of 8 different wines
- The characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine
- Service of wine
- The matching of food and wine
- Health, safety and legal issues
Requirements to gain the qualification are:
- Complete a multiple choice exam paper of 30 questions in 45 minutes and answered at least 70% correctly
- Complete a food and wine matching exercise
- Complete a portfolio of tasting notes

WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits
此中級証書課程專為葡萄酒及餐飲從業員 / 葡萄酒愛好者而設, 課程提供世界各地葡萄酒知識, 進一步擴闊飲者知識和經驗. 全面性覆蓋各項酒類的製作及有關資料, 認識葡萄酒背後的風格特色及其品嚐方法, 助你打開社交話題, 拉闊生活圈子, 實為葡萄酒愛好者不二之選.
This qualification offers broad coverage of all product categories in the field of alcoholic drinks, together with the theory of tasting technique. It is suitable for those with little previous experience. This qualification provides further information about viticulture and vinification, major grapes throughout the World, wine classification systems and broad range tasting experience and their production in wines and spirits.
This course is suitable for:
- Wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits and want to obtain an internationally recognised wine qualification.
- People employed in the drinks and hospitality industries with little previous knowledge of alcoholic beverages
This 18 hour course is designed for people who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits and will cover the following topics:
- Wine styles and food and wine matching
- WSET® Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting and sampling of 48 different wines
- Production of wine
- Wine law and understanding label terminology
- Major grape varieties
- Major wine regions
- Sweet wines
- Sparkling wines
- Fortified wines
- Spirits
Requirement to gain the qualification is:
- Complete a multiple choice exam paper of 50 questions in 60 minutes and answered at least 55% correctly
- Minimum tasting of 48 different wines and spirits

WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits
此高級証書課程專為資深葡萄酒愛好者 / 餐飲業管理人員而設, 提供更深入而全面的葡萄酒及烈酒知識, 助你更能掌握世界各地的葡萄酒酒業運作. 此外, 本証書課程著重提高學員的品評技巧, 打開你的專業品酒之門.
The Advanced Certificate gives comprehensive coverage and provides core knowledge of the wide range of wines and spirits around the world, with an increased focus on tasting techniques and the application of the knowledge gained. It is also a prerequisite for candidates planning to study for the WSET® Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits qualification.
This course is suitable for:
- People employed in the drinks and hospitality industries in a supervisory capacity, needing core information to advise management and customers with authority and make informed selections of wines and spirits
- Wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits and want to obtain an internationally recognized wine qualification.
The coverage of this 30 hour course includes:
- WSET® Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting and sampling of 84 different wines
- Viticulture and Wine Making
- Wine regions around the world
- Sparkling wines
- Fortified wines
- Spirits and Liqueurs
- Social Responsibility
To gain the qualification, one must successfully pass two exam units:
- Unit One – Theory paper with 50 multiple choice questions and 4 short written questions to be completed in 1hr 45mintues. A candidate is required to achieve a minimum mark of 55% on EACH part to pass this unit
- Unit Two – Blind tasting of TWO wines and produce an analysis using the WSET® ® Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting in 30 minutes. A minimum mark of 55% is required in order to pass this unit
- Minimum tasting of 84 different wines and spirits
